Here are three opportunities to compete for cash and recognition: Deadlines: THE LITERARY COMPETITION Details are found in the attachment 2006LiteraryCompetition.pdf The Society typically wins the majority of the awards from the Literary Competition. In 2003, 100% of the awards went to Society Chapters. However, in 2004, the Fraternity rallied and beat us 7 to 4, winning the Grand Prize for the first time in several years. There are numerous cash prizes, including the $1000 grand prize. Let’s continue to have a strong showing. The deadline for submissions is May 15th. All submissions must be electronic: either via email or on a CD-ROM mailed to HQ. Please refer to 2006LiteraryCompetition.pdf for details. THE SEWARD SCHOLARSHIPS Details are found in the attachment 2006SewardScholarship.pdf The Seward Scholarship competition is held jointly with the Fraternity. Prizes range from $500-1000 per winner. Fraternity chapters submit a disproportionate number of applications for these scholarships and thus win most of the money. If more Society members would apply, I am sure we could balance out the distribution! The application form is SewardApplication.pdf and details can be found in 2006SewardScholarship.pdf THE SOCIETY ORDER OF THE SWORD AND SPEAR The Sword and Spear is awarded to the most outstanding undergraduate Society member of the past year. A $500 prize will be awarded to the recipients’ chapter in their honor. The 2006 and 2007 winners will be announced at the fall 2007 Society Convention. The deadline for nominations is May 1, 2006. Supporting materials must be received by July 1, 2006. Each Chapter may nominate one junior or senior who has done outstanding work for the chapter, campus, community, and Society. Please send an email with the full name and class year of your chapter’s nominee to sword-and-spear@adps.org.
