The Alpha Delta Phi Society states its unequivocal support for the Black Lives Matter movement and the protests taking place in cities across the United States and throughout the world.

As an organization founded on equity, we understand that not all lives are valued equally in the United States. The U.S. has a centuries-long history of racism and violence against the Black community, and it is long past time for us as an organization to speak out against these injustices. We also understand that it is not our place to tell Black people how and when to make their frustration heard, and will strive instead to uplift Black activists in their fight for justice.

For too long, the police have abused their power and murdered Black people with impunity. And for too long, Black people have mourned, marched, chanted, and demanded justice. It’s time for the nation as a whole to stand behind the Black Lives Matter movement and its demands.

We are proud of our many siblings who have taken to the streets this week to demand justice, contributed financially, called their local politicians, initiated difficult conversations with friends and family, and provided support in other ways. And we hope that those who haven’t will take this opportunity to stand on the right side of history.

To our Black siblings, we stand in solidarity with you. It’s on all of us to ensure that the Alpha Delta Phi Society is a safe and welcoming space. That means recognizing and admitting to our own implicit biases, taking steps to change ourselves and our organization, and supporting movements for justice vocally, physically, and financially.

None of us are free until we are all free. Black lives matter.
